In 2000 “Ideal de Granada” carried out a survey of its Readers and drew up a list of the 20th centuries’ 100 most important people from Granada. Maria appeared on this list in an important place. In 2008, since the City Council was remodelling Constitución Avenue and putting a boulevard on it, it was decided to pay homage to 10 distinguished citizens of Granada by raising statues of each one.

Among the chosen celebrities was María, who deserved to go down in history at an exceptional place in the city in which she was born.
